The Franciscan Missionaries of the Eternal Word

Mother Angelica founded the Franciscan Missionaries of the Eternal Word in 1987. In Latin, the order’s name is Missionarii Franciscani Verbi Aeterni, which is why the Friars are called the MFVAs. Their primary apostolate is to “communicate the truth and beauty of the Catholic faith through word and example.”

According to their website, “We provide generously for the spiritual and sacramental needs of the Eternal Word Television Network, the Poor Clare nuns, and the Christian Faithful.”

This means they appear on-air for the daily Mass, devotional programs, and specials, like Guadalupe with the Franciscan Missionaries of the Eternal Word. They also hear Confessions and provide spiritual support for EWTN employees, the local community, and anyone who visits EWTN.

The Franciscan Missionaries of the Eternal Word would like to remember you and your intentions at daily Mass.

August Feast Days

Liturgical Seasons

It is therefore Jesus Christ Himself who is the source as well as the object of the liturgy; and hence the ecclesiastical year, which we have undertaken to explain in this work, is neither more nor less than the manifestation of Jesus Christ and His mysteries, in the Church and in the faithful soul.
